Unlearning in South Africa
August, 2008
In 2018, I found myself on an assignment in South Africa to capture the story of John…., an anti-apartheid activist turned educator and pedagogue. In his dialogue, he spoke of Frierre and Biko, Mandela and …. But a concept he spoke of greatly, was one of unlearning. In his work in the townships of Capetown, he saw how much of the colonial mentality permeated everything.
For those who have read Sapiens, we have engrained in us an understanding about the power of myth. And our ability to unlearn, then shift the myth.
